Look up LDV on Wikipedia and you'll find plenty of info for your essay. As for the invention, that really seems a little unfair to ask students to come up with something completely new. In my son's cl they just had to improve on something. Google weird inventions (The Japanese have come up with some real doozies) and you may find something that grabs your imagination. Good luck.
